Bright Futures: Keeping IDP Children Learning and Thriving
1. Introduction
As part of the celebration of Youth Day on February 11, 2025, Initiative for Community Development (ICD) took this opportunity to organize an awareness campaign at Government Primary School (GPS) Ndongo Wokoko on the importance of education for a child. This event was part of the Youth Week activities and aimed to remind that education is a fundamental right for every child, whether girl or boy, with disabilities or in a vulnerable situation.
The main objectives of this awareness was to place particular emphasis on:

Access and acceptance of all children to education;

Quality and inclusive education, allowing each child to learn in a safe and suitable environment.
The event brought together 806 students, including 155 internally displaced persons (IDPs), and their teachers, who actively participated in the discussions and awareness-raising activities.
2. Awareness-Raising Process
The campaign was conducted in several stages:
2.1. Awareness-raising on the importance of education
The discussions highlighted the benefits of accessible and inclusive education, including:

Personal development: Education provides children with essential knowledge and skills for their future.

Reducing inequalities: Equitable access to education promoting the inclusion and participation of all, including girls and children with disabilities.

Social and economic empowerment: An educated child is more likely to escape poverty and contribute to the development of his or her community.
2.2. Distribution of school kits and hygiene materials
To support students and improve their learning conditions, distribution of school materials were carried out:

School kits: notebooks and pens were distributed to 120 children, to encourage learning and engagement in studies.

Hygiene materials: Dust bins were provided to encourage good sanitation practices in classrooms and on school premises.

Water containers/Buckets: were set up in each classroom to allow students to drink and maintain good hydration.
