INITIATIVE FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The humanitarian crisis in Cameroon’s North-West and South-West regions is one of the most urgent in the world today. As of September 2024, over 1.8 million people need assistance, with 583,112 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and 991,000 targeted for aid. Displacement has disrupted education, livelihoods, and safety, leaving women and children particularly vulnerable (UNOCHA, 2024). The displaced population's top needs are food, education, protection, drinking water, shelter, and health. Cameroon has been ranked in the world's ten most neglected crises for six years in a row as funding for humanitarian assistance is very low. So far, ICD has been supporting vulnerable children and persons solely from the personal contributions of its members who are passionate about driving change. There is so much to be done to bring about sustainable change hence, the personal contributions of its members remain insufficient. The children and communities we serve are in need of much more support to decrease poverty, hunger and to scale up sustainable change.

• Education:

  • $50 provides school kits and learning materials to a displaced child, offering them a chance to continue their education.

• Food Security & Livelihoods:

  • $250 equips an IDP woman with farm inputs, tools and training for agricultural activities like market gardening or poultry farming which empowers women to cater for their household food needs.

  • $300 establishes a small business, providing a sustainable source of income for an entire family.

• Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Support:

  • $50 provides psychosocial counseling to a GBV survivor, aiding in recovery and resilience.

  • $300 funds a safe space for women and girls, ensuring safety and holistic care for survivors.
